Mark Zuckerberg the CEO of Facebook has announced that they will remove all videos modified by AI from its social media platform.
Although uncommon, they are seen as an increasing problem and many have a malicious intent. Manipulating what someone has said in a video clip can be deeply damaging. However, Facebook will not be taking down a clip of US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi where the clip was edited or slowed to make it seem she was slurring her speech. They said, “Only videos generated by AI to depict people saying fictional things will be taken down.”
The Iconoclast here wonders what they would make of clips depicting Jean Claude Junker former President of the European Commission who wasn’t slurring his speech! Junker famed for stumbling and snoozing and maybe having the odd libation or three.
Zuckerberg has pledged $10m to a fund which serves to improve Deepfake detection technology.
